Shinydocs Pro

Default PII Rules for Shinydocs Pro

Shinydocs Pro ships with 97 rules for finding potential personally identifiable information (PII) and personal sensitive information (PSI). You choose which ones run under Settings > Analysis > PII. See Detecting Potential PII and PSI using Shinydocs Pro.

How a rule finds a match

Each rule looks for documents whose text contains the pattern it targets, usually near a related keyword (for example, a nine-digit number near "SIN"). Shinydocs Pro then checks each candidate against the rule's pattern, and, for credit cards and the Canadian SIN, checks the number's check digit (the Luhn algorithm). Only documents that pass are tagged.

A tagged document gets the rule's value in potential_pii, and the text that matched is saved in pii_matches.

Sensitivity

  • 0 - Low: public or low-risk information, such as an email address or postal code.

  • 1 - Medium: could cause harm if exposed, such as a driver's license or passport number.

  • 2 - High: highly sensitive, such as a social insurance number, credit card number or API key.

The Overview and the Catalog's PII filter group results by sensitivity, and by display group where a rule has one.
